Ramp house - New Orleans, LA

WINNER BILLES ARCHITECTURE INTERNATIONAL HOME DESIGN COMPETITION

Borrowing from the housing typologies of New Orleans, the ramp becomes a semi-private porch, manifesting welcome and friendship.

In a culture known for accommodating and celebrating difference, the porch will become again the reflection of the unique identity of the house’s inhabitants.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the loss of contact with friends and family was a major longterm concern for many residents. The ramp house seeks to celebrate the porch and the diverse, vibrant community life it supports.
