Winter pavilion of light and color

Located along the western-most edge of the Wellington Basin in Montreal, the pavilion expresses the tension felt at the threshold. As the visitor approaches along the pedestrian path, the edge condition is amplified by the wall balancing precariously over the basin. Moving through the pavilion, the threshold is emphasized as the visitor passes first through a small dark chamber, then gradually through the threshold of the wall onto bleachers where the brilliant yellow of the wall frames the view and reflects on the surrounding snow, bathing the space in a sunny glow.
